DIY: CD Lamp
Give your old CDs a new life and create intresting shadows with this shiny, reflective lamp.
Materials
The instructions for this lamp are thought for a small lamp, made with twelve CDs, but you could make it bigger or smaller with different geometric volume shapes and more CDs.
- 12 CD disks
- Tool to make holes
- Small jump rings
- (Optional) Hot glue
Instructions
When assembling this lamp, there are two options: with jump rings or with hot glue, which will be detailed further ahead.
You can place the CDs with the shiny side out if you want a more reflective look, or use the CDs own design outside, or remove that design alltoghether, to have both sides be shiny.
1. To start, mark five dots in the ouotside circumference of each CD, all with equal spacing, like the spikes of a pentagon.
2. Using your tool of choice, make holes where you marked on the CDs.
3. To stard building the shape pick a CD that will be your bottom piece, and join five more CDs to it along the borders, passing a jump ring through the holes in both disks.
4. Repeat this process with the rest of the CDs until you only have the top CD left.
5. Pass your light cable through the hole of the top CD.
6. Finish joining the last CD with the jump rings, and you’re done!
